Enjoying the great Outdoors

One of the primary reasons we wanted to buy a piece of land was because we both worked at jobs which meant we were indoors a lot of the time with limited opportunities for getting exercise and fresh air. We both love being out of doors and wanted our family and friends to be able to join us enjoying it. Friends and family members with long term health conditions have made us aware of how much they value having a peaceful outdoor space to rest in, do gentle activity in, and enjoy watching the changes through the seasons and years.

Walking, playing & enjoying being out in the fresh air – although Tiggins Meadow is only 4 acres in area, we deliberately planned lots of pathways and sitting areas to encourage people to walk around, watch wildlife, play, learn to ride a bike, go on the tree swing etc.

On clear evenings we can gaze in awe at the myriads of stars overhead, spotting Mars and Venus, watching the International Space Station and satellites fly overhead, listening to owls and sometimes catching sight of one flying low hunting over the field. It’s beautiful getting up at first light and hearing the dawn chorus and equally beautiful watching the sun set. We encourage our young family members to have a go at shelter building in the summer months and occasionally have a ‘sleep out’.

Campfire cooking is great fun ! Regular items on the menu are popcorn done in a corn popper made with metal sieves, toasted marshmallows (whittle your own stick), damper bread and of course fried eggs ! We heat hot water in a ‘Kelly Kettle’ or on the ‘EcoZoom’ stove fired by willow sticks which are harvested for that purpose.

Relaxing is just as important to us ! We thoroughly enjoy just sitting, snoozing in the sun, listening to the sounds of nature, and chatting to friends. The beautiful surroundings are very conducive to ‘just being’.
